JETS WEEK! GETCHA FINS UP!!!!!

My beloved Miami Dolphins will square off against the hated New York Jets tonight at 8:30 PM. It's the biggest game of the season thus far, and I've been looking forward to this one ever since they released the schedules a few months back. The two teams actually match up pretty well. The Dolphins are 2-0 coming off of close wins over the Bills and the Vikings (both games away) and the Jets are back to .500 after beating the Patriots last week to get their record back to 1-1. The Jets players (and their fans) like to boast about their vaunted defense and superior playing, but let's take a look at the how the two teams' stats compare through the first two games of the season:

OFFENSE:
Average Yards Per Game:
Miami: 261
New York: 256

Average Yards Passing Per Game:
Miami: 135
New York: 130

Average Yards Rushing Per Game:
Miami: 126
New York: 126

DEFENSE:
Average Yards Allowed Per Game:
Miami: 265
New York: 286.5

Average Passing Yards Allowed Per Game:
Miami: 162
New York: 236

Average Rushing Yards Allowed Per Game:
Miami: 103
New York: 50.5

Pretty even overall, with the Dolphins having a slight statistical advantage on both offense and defense. Should be a great game.

If the Dolphins can win, they'll move to 3-0 and have a commanding lead on the rest of the AFC East (especially if they can take out the Patriots next week)

Really looking forward to this one. FINS UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THE TRAIN-WRECK THAT IS THE 2010 NEW YORK JETS CONTINUES

Oh, nothing brings me greater joy than sitting back and watching the New York Jets make themselves look like idiots. Dating all the way back to last year when they got to the AFC Title game. The media started to anoint them as the clear favorite to win this year’s Super Bowl, and the team ran with it. They signed a bunch of overpriced, over the hill former-star free agents, and their coach, Rex Ryan, did nothing but talk shit the entire pre-season.

Then, their star player (and honestly, arguably the best DB in the NFL), Derrelle Revis, decided he wanted a new contract. He held out of training camp, didn’t practice or participate in any pre-season games, until he got it. Finally a few days before the first game, the team caved in and gave Revis the contract that he wanted, and he played in the first game last week. (A game that the Jets lost 10-9 to the Baltimore Ravens). Their “Quarterback” Mark Sanchez managed a measly 74 passing yards and a 47% completion rate. That’s Cade McNown bad, folks. They also lost one of their best defensive players, Kris Jenkins, for the entire season.

Things didn’t start off so hot for the paper champions this year, hmm?

What could possibly be worse?

Aforementioned star DB Derrelle Revis reportedly now has a hamstring injury, and he hasn’t been able to fully practice all week.

This is interesting for a number of hilarious reasons:

1) As I mentioned earlier, Revis held out to get a new contract this year and did not participate in any pre-season conditioning, practices or pre-season games. Now, after playing a game, he has a sore hamstring. THAT’S WHAT YOU GET FOR SKIPPING PRE-SEASON, DUMBASS.

2) The Jets play the Patriots this week. There’s a Wide Receiver who plays for the Pats named Randy Moss, whom you may or may not have heard of. He’s only one of the best WRs to ever play the game. Last season, when the Jets played the Pariots, Moss was held in check by Revis (he only had 4 catches for 24 yards and 0 touchdowns). Revis bragged a lot about his performance, even going so far as to call Moss a “slouch.” The controversy grew, when Moss claimed that Revis wasn’t covering him one-on-one because he had help from the Free Safety over the top. A completely ridiculous study of the Moss/Revis matchup conducted by the folks at profootballtalk.com determined that Revis in fact DID have Safety help on about 70% of the snaps for the game (meaning that he didn’t have to play Moss as tight because he had the Safety double covering him). Revis still claims he didn’t have that help, even though game film clearly shows otherwise. So now Revis is going up against Moss again. Only this time, he has a built-in excuse if Moss gets the better of him, whether he has help from the Safety or not.

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME (fantasy) FOOTBALL?!?!?!?

So, this past Sunday I had two fantasy football drafts, practically back to back. The first was for a 12 team league that I put together every year for myself and some people I work with. The second was for a 14 team league that I joined with a couple of old friends and bunch of people I don't know. I did pretty good on both, I feel, and even though I know that no one will read this, I thought I'd recap both (it's worth noting that I drafted sleepy baby Darius Heyward-Bey in BOTH drafts!):

Draft # 1: "Lazy Sunday" - 12 teams, Drafted 6th.
1.Frank Gore, RB - 49ers
2.Philip Rivers, QB - Chargers
3.Ronnie Brown, RB - Dolphins
4.Mike Sims-Walker, WR - Jaguars
5.Dwayne Bowe, WR - Chiefs
6.Jerome Harrison, RB - Browns
7.Robert Meachem, WR - Saints

14.Darius Heyward-Bey, WR - Raiders
15.Anthony Fasano, TE - Dolphins

Draft # 2: "Big Foot & The Muscle Machines" - 14 teams, drafted 13th.
1.Philip Rivers, QB - Chargers
2.Calvin Johnson, WR - Lions
3.Ronnie Brown, RB - Dolphins
4.Matt Forte, RB - Bears
5.Mike Wallace, WR - Steelers
6.Santana Moss, WR - Redskins
7.Thomas Jones, RB - Chiefs
8.John Carlson, TE - Seahawks
9.Laurent Robinson, WR - Saints
10.Chad Henne, QB - Dolphins
11.Malcom Floyd, WR - Chargers
12.Le'Ron McClain, RB - Ravens
13.Sammy Morris, RB - Patriots
14.Anthony Fasano, TE - Dolphins
15.Darius Heyward-Bey, WR - Raiders
16.Dan Carpenter, K - Dolphins
17.Brandon Fields, P - Dolphins
18.Miami Dolphins Defense/Special Teams
19.Trent Edwards, QB - Bills
20.Miami Dolphins Head Coach

The 2nd one was fantastic, especially for a 14 team league. I'll keep you all posted on how I do this year, because I'm sure that millions of people are wondering.

Up tomorrow!: LOVER'S SPAT IN SAN FRANCISCO?!
