THE TRAIN-WRECK THAT IS THE 2010 NEW YORK JETS CONTINUES

Oh, nothing brings me greater joy than sitting back and watching the New York Jets make themselves look like idiots. Dating all the way back to last year when they got to the AFC Title game. The media started to anoint them as the clear favorite to win this year’s Super Bowl, and the team ran with it. They signed a bunch of overpriced, over the hill former-star free agents, and their coach, Rex Ryan, did nothing but talk shit the entire pre-season.

Then, their star player (and honestly, arguably the best DB in the NFL), Derrelle Revis, decided he wanted a new contract. He held out of training camp, didn’t practice or participate in any pre-season games, until he got it. Finally a few days before the first game, the team caved in and gave Revis the contract that he wanted, and he played in the first game last week. (A game that the Jets lost 10-9 to the Baltimore Ravens). Their “Quarterback” Mark Sanchez managed a measly 74 passing yards and a 47% completion rate. That’s Cade McNown bad, folks. They also lost one of their best defensive players, Kris Jenkins, for the entire season.

Things didn’t start off so hot for the paper champions this year, hmm?

What could possibly be worse?

Aforementioned star DB Derrelle Revis reportedly now has a hamstring injury, and he hasn’t been able to fully practice all week.

This is interesting for a number of hilarious reasons:

1) As I mentioned earlier, Revis held out to get a new contract this year and did not participate in any pre-season conditioning, practices or pre-season games. Now, after playing a game, he has a sore hamstring. THAT’S WHAT YOU GET FOR SKIPPING PRE-SEASON, DUMBASS.

2) The Jets play the Patriots this week. There’s a Wide Receiver who plays for the Pats named Randy Moss, whom you may or may not have heard of. He’s only one of the best WRs to ever play the game. Last season, when the Jets played the Pariots, Moss was held in check by Revis (he only had 4 catches for 24 yards and 0 touchdowns). Revis bragged a lot about his performance, even going so far as to call Moss a “slouch.” The controversy grew, when Moss claimed that Revis wasn’t covering him one-on-one because he had help from the Free Safety over the top. A completely ridiculous study of the Moss/Revis matchup conducted by the folks at profootballtalk.com determined that Revis in fact DID have Safety help on about 70% of the snaps for the game (meaning that he didn’t have to play Moss as tight because he had the Safety double covering him). Revis still claims he didn’t have that help, even though game film clearly shows otherwise. So now Revis is going up against Moss again. Only this time, he has a built-in excuse if Moss gets the better of him, whether he has help from the Safety or not.
